top 5 spring cleaning pins

Hi I'm Tangy and I'm addicted to pinterest.  If there were a support group for spouses of pin addicts, my husband would be the first in line. A good friend of mine introduced me to pinterest about 3 years ago, back when it was still in beta testing. I pin and pin and pin and sometimes actually use the pins in my real life as apposed to just looking.  Well, 125 boards and 7000+ pins later, I still love my pinterest. Today, I'd like to share

  1. vinegar and dawn make a great cleaning combo. check out this post from commona my house
  2. who knew you're supposed to wash your pillows?!?!?!? onegoodthingbyjillee tells you how
  3. jillee also has a great old post on cleaning your washing machine
  4. this one for refreshing your towels is awesome. also includes other lifehacker tips that I've yet to try out
  5. ok, last one..... another great tip from jillee and another who knew moment..... cleaning the vent filter over your stove. I'll admit (and it's embarrassing) , when I did this one I was surprised and grossed out by the smells and gunk that came out!
So, share your favorite pinterest cleaning tips and maybe some of your pin fails. Check out the rest of my decluttering and cleaning board & follow me on pinterest. Happy cleaning!

the art critic

I love art: making it, teaching it to others, and staring deeply at the masters. Recently, we took a family day trip over to the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. This outfit was just the ticket for a polished, comfy, and sophisticated look. Black, white, and red are such a classic combo and the leopard print peep toe shoes add just a little fun.

Remember back in my first post, spring obsession, those factory j.crew pant. Well, they did make it home (and their twin) in a great olive green. These are the softest pants I think that I've ever owned. Plus they transition from casual to date night in a flash. Expect to see more of these new favs in future post.

bff blueberry muffins

The name of these perfect muffins comes from the fact that anyone that you share them with will instantly become your new BFF. The original recipe is from Martha Stewart's May 2008 everyday food magazine. I've scoured the internet and her site to find a link for this recipe, but no luck. Any who, here it is with my own alterations.

bff blueberry muffins

3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 large eggs (room temp)
1/2 cup 2% milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 cup white sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cup (or more) fresh blueberries
Baker's Joy- baking spray (like Pam with flour too)

what to do
Preheat over to 375. Spray muffin tin with Baker's Joy.

In a bowl, whisk cooled butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla.

In a larger bowl, sift flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.

Pour eggy mixer into the flour.

Mix gently with a rubber spatula.

Fold in blueberries.

Spoon batter into muffin tins. I've used large, mini, and shaped muffin tins- all are fine.

Bake large muffins for 15 to 20 minutes. Small or mini muffins for about 10 to 12.
Pull a butter knife around the edges of muffins if they are a little obstinate popping out of the tin.
A large bat of butter & acup of coffee are the perfect bffs for these babies. De-lish!

What a perfect way to begin your weekend! Do you have a go- to recipe for weekend breakfast or brunch? I'd love to hear.

one dress, all seasons

I'm a  multi-tasker and love when my clothes can do the same. This dress could win the gold medal of mulit- tasking, taking me through the seasons (or a week of weather in Texas). The key to a great piece with versatility is classic lines like this patterned shift dress. Let's break down how to take this dress from fall to spring and back again.

Falling for Layers

A light weight chambray button up and suede booties are perfect when the first chill brings in the fall. Tights in a color similar to the booties gives you that long, lean look (plus it's a perfect way to introduce that slightly intimidating trend- booties). A thin belt in chartreuse defines the waist and pulls this look together.

Winter Forecast

Winter weather in Texas calls for layers. This fossil shift dress is winter ready with the addition of my favorite chunky grandpa sweater, teal tights, tall leather boots and belt. A light-weight scarf adds another pop of color.

Here comes the Sun

Sun, glorious sun! In Texas, the days between bitter winter winds and blistering summer heat are few in number. This chameleon of a dress enjoys those blissful spring days with few adornments - barely there sandals, sunglasses, freshly painted toes, and a hint of a tan. What's your favorite versatile piece? Leave a comment or send me a pic.

spring trend... peter pan collars

this spring is bringing back a style icon.... the peter pan collar. whether you wear it super girly, slightly vintage, or with an edge, this is a trend that anyone can wear. I'm especially in love with style one with it's nod to the nautical. I'd pair it with skinny white jeans and tan ballet flats. How will use style your peter pan collar this spring?

one: sheinside, navy beige stripe
two: modcloth, jade your day top
three: modcloth, frenchie peplum blouse
four: l'atelier de camille, white peter pan collar tops
five: ruche, janice lace detail dress
six: hautelook, blush sequin dress
seven: modcloth, first kiss dress
eight: modcloth, fashionably- date dress

what's on: my bedside table

I love to read, almost anything. I'm currently into a book recommended by my awesome thirteen year old. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green is soon to be a major motion picture (funny that we still call them motion pictures).
It's a wonderfully written YA lit. that appeals to moms and teens. So download a couple of copies and hit starbucks for a hot cocoa and hang out time. Make sure that you grab a box of tissue before you head out. Check out what else is on my to do reading list.
So, what are you currently reading? Share in the comments below.

'cause you're hot and cold

Texas weather has got me feeling like a Katy Perry song right about now. Waking up to temps in the 30's with highs in the mid 70's can make finding the perfect outfit a bit of a challenge.

Well, this j. crew factory fatigue jacket is just the piece to get me through. Remember that secret sale I mentioned in the first post, well, this was one of the big winners. Thanks to this post from Merrick's Art, I took the plunge and love the look. Can't wait to see how it transitions from weekend to work wear.
 Enjoy your weekend!
